Whether you’re walking, cycling, driving, ridesharing, or taking a bus or train, TravelRite tells you what your transportation options are, with related CO2 emissions to your destination. When you decide on a planet-friendly option, you immediately see the environmental impact of your journey in kilograms (kgs) of carbon emissions and the CO2 emissions saved as compared to driving a car. As your carbon footprint shrinks, TravelRite keeps track of your CO2 savings and shows how your mindful choice of travel saves trees. You can compare your CO2 savings with other TravelRite users on the leaderboard. Invite your friends to download the app and join the movement to fight the climate crisis together.

We believe that information is power. Founder Marc Ott, a longtime local government leader, wanted to give people the power to make decisions that could support their environmental goals. As City Manager and CEO of Austin, Texas, he believed if people knew taking public transportation or cycling to work or the grocery store could prevent hundreds of kilograms of carbon emissions from polluting the city’s air, they would make better informed environment friendly transportation choices. He heard from residents in every corner of the community that green spaces and clean air and water were top priorities.
Marc wanted to give people an easy way to get the data so they could choose. That’s how TravelRite was born. Because of his many years of experience in public service, he believes TravelRite is the perfect tool to help cities, counties, and towns, offer real solutions to their residents.
CO2 emission is the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere resulting from burning fossil fuels. CO2 emission varies based on the mode of transport selected: Car-the average gasoline vehicle (AGV): CO2 emission is calculated using the EPA standard of 404 grams or 0.404 kilograms (Kg) of CO2/mile. (EPA, March 2018). The CO2 emission is represented in Kg. The calculation for CO2 emission is Distance in miles * 0.404 kg CO2 emission gms = CO2 emission in Kg. Rideshare: (0.404 (kg) * distance in miles) / No of the passenger. Bus: CO2 emission value is calculated from climatiq api. Train: CO2 emission value is calculated from climatiq api. Electric Scooter: CO2 Emission = 0. Walk: CO2 Emission = 0. Bicycle: CO2 Emission = 0.
CO2 saved is the removal of carbon dioxide that would have otherwise been used. The amount of CO2/mile produced by the Average Gasoline Vehicle (AGV) is the standard of measure used to compare the CO2/mile produced by alternate modes of transportation. Per EPA, the CO2 emission/ mile for AGV is 0.404 kg/mile. CO2 saved = the CO2 emission that would have been generated by the AGV less the actual CO2 emission for the mode of transport selected. Tree Saved is Calculated as User’s (TotalCarbonSaved / 100) = No. of Trees Saved.
TravelRite (TR) looks at the CO2 emissions for each mode of travel and recommends the mode with the least amount of CO2 emissions. For distances less than a mile, TR recommends walking and electric scooter. For distances upto 5 miles, TR includes biking as a recommended mode of transport. For distances higher than 5 miles, TR recommends the public transport (bus or train) that has the least CO2 emission.
TravelRite (TR) always recommends the mode with the least CO2 emissions. We understand that the recommended mode of travel may not be convenient if you have time or other restrictions. TR will provide other options and you can always select the option that works for you. Once you select an option TR will calculate the CO2 emission and the CO2 saved for the choice you made.
